6 sentences that profoundly describe God

Some may think that God is difficult to describe. That is true when we don’t accept Him as God. When we try to describe God with earthly, humanistic traits. Here is one passage in scripture that describes God uniquely.

Romans 11:33 “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

1. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

A simple statement at first glance. Look again!

The letter “O” is an exclamatory noun. Such as “O no!”, “O my!”, and even at the moment of a revelation “Ooo!”.

So the writers say “O the depth of the riches of God” Stating in simplicity “Wow, such magnitude of riches that God has.

We already know that God is rich. Everything that has ever existed and does exist God owns. Even our most precious gold is used to pave streets in heaven. But I want you to see that the writer is exclaiming the riches of God’s wisdom and knowledge.

Omniscient! All knowing! All understanding! Which brings to light Rom. 8:31 “If God be for us, who can be against us?”

2. How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

A rhetorical question; How unsearchable are his judgments!

The writer is implying that even if we could search out the reasoning’s for the events in the world and why they happen to those that they do we wouldn’t be able to comprehend the explanation.

His ways are so far from our understanding that they are past us.

Past, the only place in time that you can go to. I can go to the future just as soon as I wait on it to get here. I am already in the present right now. But God has such a sovereign foreknowledge that His way are past us in the past.

3. For who hath known the mind of the Lord?

I love this question for two reasons. First because it is the age old question “Why God?”. Second because after He has given us His own self in deep description in His Word (Holy Bible) which is eternal and the deepest well of knowledge and information. We still can’t know the mind of the Lord.

At best we may know the attributes of God. But 1% of His infinite mind is more than we can know.

4. Or who hath been his counsellor?

This question reminds me of the last 5 chapters of the book of Job where God asks Job “who has divided the watercourse for the overflowing water, or a way for the lightning of thunder?”

In other words; God is asking in both passages “were you there when I created the world?”

“Who hath been His counsellors?” Implying that God did not and does not seek advice on His universe; the only universe.

5. Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

Does God owe anyone anything? Did He take a loan out when constructing the heavens?

No! No one gave God anything, He owes no one.

We have nothing to give him. There is nothing I have that He didn’t give me.

Rather it was Him that gave to us. Beyond all of this world He gave Himself. God in the flesh sacrificed Himself for us for no other reason than LOVE.

6. For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

“For of him” All things exist because of Him.

“For through him” All things continue to work because of Him.

“For to him” All things conclude at His reckoning.

And less we forget… the final statement concludes with His glory. Glory is owed to God. Glory id owed to God forever!

I hope this helps you today in understanding that we can’t understand everything about God.
