6 Salvation Affirmations from 1John

1. Commandment

1 John 2:3, 4 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”

Notice the wording, “and hereby we do know that we know him”. This is expressing that we are discussing our salvation. We know that we know Jesus because we strive to keep His commandments. Not that we keep the commandments of Christ or the 10 Commandments without offence. But rather that we are uncomfortable or grieved at the very thought of sinning against God.

John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” We can know our salvation by our desire to keep God’s commandments

2. Compassion

1 John 3:14 “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.”

Check your salvation by your compassion. A life in Christ is the opposite of selfishness. Many times a day you should find yourself feeling empathetic toward those around you. This kindness in heart helps prove a relationship with Christ.

3. Christlikeness

1 John 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”

If you say that Christ is in your heart then your life should prove that. If I claim that I am a believer of Jesus Christ, but my life remains the same then obviously I have knowledge of Christ but not the faith in Christ.

4. Companion

1 John 3:24 “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”

Not only have I passed from death unto life as 1 John 3:14 says, but also that this life comes with a living Spirit that dwells with me and in me. Do you have the living Spirit of God living in you?

5. Conscience

1 John 1:9, 10 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

A born again believer of Jesus Christ wants to and will confess their faults, fumbles, and failures to Him. They are tormented with grief and anxiety when trying to lie to themselves or lie to the Spirit within about their unconfessed sins.

6. Commitment

1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Finally, these 5 previous proofs is a check list to affirm your commitment to Christ. The statement “that ye may know that ye have eternal life” is telling us that we can affirm our commitment to Jesus by the scriptures. Know your salvation. Your life is fuller when you remove doubt.
